From A Speaking Likeness (written by Joseph Plaskett, published by Ronsdale Press in 1999), Plaskett states,
"Flowers intimidate me. They seem impossibly complex. Where to begin? Where are the bold, simple forms? I make excuses and put off trying to face the problem. Suddenly the flowers begin to fade. Only then, faced with their disappearance, am I galvanized to action. It is not always too late. It becomes easy. Complexity surrenders to the speed and spontaneity of the brush. The more complex, the easier. There it is, realized by intuition.
Flowers are not still life. Would that they were still! They are intensely alive and as with any other living subject the artist must adjust to constant change. A day or an hour later what has inspired him is gone."
