"The inspiration for this came from a different place for me, it came from the land. I was driving south looking at these amazing craggy trees, and I suddenly realized that this was the landscape that the Canadian “Group of Seven” came north to paint. I tried to incorporate a little of the original Group of Seven artists influence into the piece, but of course their style varied not only between individuals, but also over the course of each artists lifetime. Because I was creating the piece, it also had to include some animals. I contemplated putting in some moose, or beaver, but in the end settled on Canada Geese, for my tribute to the Canadian Group of Seven." - Margot Cormier Splane
