Core Basin

In the late 1980's, the consignor of this sculpture helped Peter Powning come up with and execute a fundraising scheme when he was trying to raise enough money to build a new studio. This studio changed the scale and breadth of Powning's creations.
“Core Basin” is cast bronze, cast aluminum and cast glass. It was made in 1992 as an edition of 5 for collectors who had fronted $5,000 each for a work of art to be delivered 2 years after they paid without knowing what it would look like.
An edition of "Core Basin" is in the collection of the Beaverbrook Art Gallery, as well as in collection of the New Brunswick Museum.
This artwork's image is featured in the book "A Retrospective: Peter Powning" (John Leroux, 2020), pg. 78. It was published by Goose Lane Editions.
