Broken Umbrellas

“Broken Umbrellas” deals with the concept of shelter. Lawrence Ferlinghetti’s poem “Dog” and Tom Waits’, “Rain Dogs”, were in part the impetus for this painting. The intention was to look at various ways in which the idea of “shelter” is discarded – becoming somewhat redundant for our needs. The featured dancers, the boy escaping his parents carrying a book on “Erotica”, all represent this concept.
