This painting was created in 2026. It has been framed with Larson Juhl moulding. The watercolour has been painted on a wood panel called "Aquabord". The framed dimensions are 19.5 x 23.5 in.
Museum Series Aquabord™ is a textured, highly absorbent watercolor panel designed for watercolor, gouache, and other water media. It is crafted on sealed Hardbord™, protected with Ampersand’s proprietary Archiva-Seal™ barrier, and coated with an acid free clay and mineral ground with a texture similar to cold pressed watercolor paper. Once sealed, Aquabord can be framed and displayed without glass.
ARTIST BIOGRAPHY -
Ann is based in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada. Elected to the prestigious Canadian Society of Painters in Water Colour (CSPWC) in 2001 and the Society of Canadian Artists (SCA) in 2007, she paints in oils and watercolor.
In October 2024, her watercolour painting "Alone" was chosen to be added to The Royal Collection at Windsor Castle. One of the world's largest and most important art collections, the Royal Collection is one of the last remaining great European royal collections with over a million objects including paintings, sculptures, jewelry, books, and furniture. The CSPWC adjudicated 25 watercolour paintings to be added to the Royal Collection, bringing the total number of CSPWC works held there to 100. These paintings make up the largest Canadian component in the entire collection.
Canada has the much smaller but similar Crown Collection and as part of that collection, Ann's "Eye of the Beholder" hangs in Rideau Hall in Ottawa, home of Canada's Governor-General.
Confident use of color and emotional intensity in her images of black women have garnered several national awards and wonderful recognition in print, including features in art publications in America and France and on book covers. Her portrait-like paintings of sheep so full of warmth, personality and texture have also earned national awards.
The majority of her watercolors are executed as traditional transparent watercolor on paper, but most are finished in such a way that they do not need glazing, adding an exciting and immediate tactile element to the paintings.
Ann's work has been shown across Canada and internationally in Italy and in Mexico City, and is held in the Royal Collection Trust at Windsor Castle, England; in Canada's Crown Collection; and in the Department of Foreign Affairs, Government of Canada; as well as by private collectors in the US and Canada. In the Atlantic provinces, her work is in the New Brunswick Art Bank; the Atlantic Lottery Corporation; the City of Moncton, and Groupe Savoie Inc.
