Réjean Roy
To celebrate nature as Réjean Roy does is to have a truly intimate relationship with the land and its powerful beauty. Réjean has been shaped and informed by the land. He has translated this profound understanding of nature to us through his paintings. His goal is not to copy it directly but rather to develop a sensitivity for his eyes to see and his hand to become a reflex of his observed feelings.
Réjean lives in Northern New Brunswick where he paints and explores his childhood woodlands, but every so often, he packs his paddles and brushes for some distant northern landscape to get inspired. Parallel to his artistic endeavours, Réjean also enjoys creating illustrations for children’s literature. He has illustrated more than 30 titles over the course of his career, in addition to writing many stories. He mainly works with New Brunswick publishing houses including Bouton d’or Acadie, les Éditions de la Grande Marée, and les Éditions du Phares.
As an artist, Réjean is primarily self taught and he credits mentors from his formative years, including Roger Langevin and Jacques Arseneault. He is currently represented by Gallery 78 in New Brunswick and Roberts Gallery in Toronto. His work may be found in the New Brunswick Art Bank, the University of New Brunswick Harriet Irving Library collection and in private and corporate collections in Canada and internationally.
