PINK CINERARIA
Fredericton has a farmers' market as most cities and towns do. Once it used to be just a market, but now it's almost a statement against supermarkets and plastic packaging. Its character has changed slightly, and among the stalls of eggs and meat and homemade bread and fish, young craftsmen sells pots and lamps and wooden toys and jewellery. It's a place of gentle protest, a place where one can get a sense of the simple life which is gone. Maybe it's only a pretend place but I love it and I go there most Saturday mornings to buy liver and smoked pigs' jowls and cracked eggs and cinerarias.
