Liliane Lawrance

Born in Antwerp, Belgium in 1945, and emigrating to Canada in 1956, Liliane Lawrance, a resident of Upper Kent, Carleton County, NB, has been painting oil portraits, landscapes and abstracts for over forty years, working in both New Brunswick and the Northwest Territories. Lawrance studied Fine Arts at Concordia University in Montréal.

She generally works from life using oils on Belgian linen which has been stretched and primed by herself in the traditional manner.

She is a past winner in the New Brunswick juried art exhibition initiated by the late Marion McCain in conjunction with the Beaverbrook Art Gallery in Fredericton.

The artist has also completed a portrait of "The Speaker of the House" for the Legislative Assembly of the Northwest Territories. Under the auspices of the Northwest Territories Arts Council, she painted landscapes and a series of portraits from life, in oils and charcoal, of northern elders in their home communities. The majority of these works are now in the permanent collection of the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre in Yellowknife.

Her work has been exhibited in commercial and public galleries in British Columbia, the Northwest Territories, Ontario and New Brunswick and is represented in both public and private collections in Canada and Belgium.
