After graduating with a ceramics diploma in fine craft I quickly discovered I could combine my love of nature with my passion for art and all things clay. The contrast between control and the uncontrolled is the spirit and essence of my work. I work towards creating precise and purposeful forms while abandoning these pieces to the unpredictable nature of fire and smoke.
Using alternative methods to decorate my pots appeals to me. There is something satisfying about using natural materials to embellish my pots. Smoke patterns and carbon trails are formed on the surface of my horse hair pieces by applying grains of sugar and strands of horsehair when the pot is extremely hot. Wood chips gleaned from local mills are used to blacken lids with smoke. Driftwood is collected while combing for treasures on my many adventures on the shores of NB.
