This etching was created in 1964 as part of David Blackwood's "The Lost Party," series. "The Lost Party" is one of the largest thematically linked series of prints in Canadian history, consisting of fifty etchings that depicted the Newfoundland sealing disaster of 1914.
Heritage Newfoundland and Labrador explains the disaster here.
Blackwood only created a very small series of this image. The edition is 10 and this piece is number 8/10.
