Daniel Porter, is an East Coast-based artist known for work that is grounded in deep personal experience highlighting a genuine connection to the natural world. Informed by extensive time spent in the field, Daniel’s art reveals a tempered honesty and a profound understanding of the subjects he depicts. Whether capturing a bird taking to wing or the dalliances of light on water, Daniel’s paintings breathe life into his subjects. Though entirely unique, his style resonates close with the that of the great old masters of his field.

Says Daniel. “I’ve spent years defining for myself what truly constitutes a work of art. The movement of nature and the play of light feature heavily in my work. My goal is to approach my subjects simply yet effectively, creating energy through these elements.

Throughout his career, now in its fourth decade, Daniel has also held several roles in the fine arts, including that of illustrator, conservator, and curator. His vast knowledge and experience have earned him a reputation as an authority in many of these areas. Daniel’s work has been juried by many experts in the international fine art world and can be found in numerous private and corporate collections, as well as several prominent public institutions. His work is also featured at several important international fine art galleries and exhibitions.

Daniel creates his work in Vine Charcoal, Soft Pastel, Oil and Watercolor. He has become a highly sought after consultant for fine artist material makers across the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom. He is an Associate Artist with Unison Colour of Northumberland England, where he has his own line of signature pastels.

A regular contributor to several well-known international publications, including Gray’s Sporting Journal, The Atlantic Salmon Journal, and The Upland Almanac, Daniel’s art has also been featured in many books and publications around the world.
