Joanna Richardson is a ceramic artist based in Fredericton, New Brunswick. She works with stoneware to make functional pieces with a focus on simple, clean forms. Joanna is interested in using everyday objects to explore peacefulness through repetition, comfort in muscle-memory. She has shown her work at the NBCCD Graduate Exhibition at the Beaverbrook Gallery, in Fredericton, and has pieces for sale in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, PEI, and Michigan. Joanna has a diploma in Fine Craft Ceramics from NBCCD, as well as a Bachelor of Honours in Cultural Studies from Trent University. As a potter, she spends most of her time out of the studio doing laundry. Joanna is the recipient of the 2018 Heather Stone Emerging Artist Award from the Craft East Buyer’s Expo, the 2018 Governor General’s medal from the College of Craft and Design, the 2018 Duffie Crowell award from the Fredericton Community Foundation, and the 2018 Gallery on Queen award.
The Canyon Teapots come from memories I have camping as a child. These hidden scenes are idyllic and nostalgic, and perhaps offer a kind of refuge for a stilling cup of tea.
