Lucie Quintal was born in Montréal. She has been living in Point La Nim, New Brunswick since 1981. Lucie has been creating and exhibiting her hand hooked works since 2015. Some of her works were acquired by the Province of New Brunswick and are also in private collections in Ontario and Yukon.
Lucie Quintal is a member of FAN (Fibre Art Network) and of AAAPNB (Association acadienne des artistes professionnels du Nouveau-Brunswick) and is an Emerging Artisan with Craft NB. Lucie is inspired by the world inside and around her. She draws from her soul adding creative abstractions to her designs. The colours of Lucie’s works are vibrant like a wild meadow where all the colours meet and form a cohesive Artscape. The different fibres used in Lucie’s pieces make for interesting textures and contrasts.
I am a textile and fibre artist who does hand hooked surface art. I create my works by drawing on burlap or linen. I combine recycled fabrics, garments, hand-spun yarns, hand-dyed yarns and natural fibres to establish interesting colours and contrast in textures, bringing my sketches alive. I make original hooking designs from observations, imagination, and thicknesses of loops as I hook. I enjoy the playfulness of my art.
My works are described as abstract realism. Whether it is a seascape, a cityscape, or flowers, I want the viewer to feel happy in the moment, taking a respite from the chaos of everyday living. I also want each person to discover the diversity, richness, and characteristics of the fibres.
