Melissa Booker is a textiles artist from a small town in northwestern New Brunswick. Melissa is a weaver and mostly works in cotton as well as wools. Her unique color choices and playful textures help her products stand out. Animals, as well as functionality, inspire the majority of Bookers work and are part of her main focus as an artist.
I am a graduate of advanced studies from the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design textiles design program. I have specialized training in weaving. From a young age, I have always been interested in art and influenced by colour. I use colour and texture in my work to make it come alive. I like playing with unusual shapes and concepts by making them out of various new materials. I often redesign and reimagine the things around me in my work. Basing my practice in Perth-Andover, my goal is to revive art and craft in smaller New Brunswick towns and to show the world a different side of textiles.
